Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is a virus that causes upper and lower respiratory diseases which occurs in all age group especially in children, elderly people and people with low immune systems. Human metapneumovirus belongs to Pneumoviradae family along with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Due to the advancement of technology the use of molecular diagnostic testing helps in increased identification and awareness of Human metapneumovirus as a major cause of upper and lower respiratory infections. So far no specific treatment or vaccine is available for Human metapneumovirus.
